The DII SIUe Cougars took 2 games from Illinois State University this weekend as they swept the Redbirds at home with scores of 8-5 and 7-3. Sophomore forward Alec Pellegrino (Michigan Warriors, NAHL) led the way Friday night with 2 goals and an assist as the Cougars rolled the Redbirds out shooting them 47 to 14. Other SIUe goal scorers consisted of Andrew Bond (St. Louis Jr Blues, NA3HL), Blake Takmajian (Chesterfield Falcons, CSDHL), Freddie Schaljo (New Jersey Shore Wildcats, NA3HL), Kain Henson (Alton, USHS), Stephen Sitze (Eastern IL University, DII ACHA) and Jason Sperry (Collinsville, USHS). 

Saturdays game was much of the same as the Cougars took it to the Redbirds again with a 7-3 win. Scoring was spread out for the Cougars with Bond notching 3 points, and Tyler Gilleland (Islanders, USPHL), Zach Schingoathe (Decatur Blaze, USPHL) and Schaljo with 2 points apiece. In other excitement in the game, Freshman defenseman Joe Watson scored his first collegiate goal as he beat the ISU goalie with 16:30 remaining in the 3rd period. The Cougars went on to out shoot the Redbirds 55 to 22 as they went on to complete the weekend sweep. 

Junior Goalie and Scottsdale Arizona native, Patrick Crozier (Northern Cyclones, MJHL) started in both games of the weekend as he grabbed 2 wins. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SIUe improved to 8-14-0 at the DII ACHA level and 8-4-0 in MACHA Conference play with the weekend sweep. The Cougars will now get a month off as school closes for Christmas break and will return for the second semester of the season with 6 regular season games remaining. All 6 of the remaining games, University of Illinois, Northern Illinois University, and University of Iowa, are against conference rivals as MACHA points are up for grabs.
