Cougars Inaugural Teddy Bear Toss
SIUE looks forward to Teddy Bear Toss against Iowa State
By Luke Clevenger
When entering the East Alton Ice Arena there is a sign right above the door telling crowds that Iowa State comes to town on the 1st and 2nd of February, but one of those games has extra importance for the Cougars. February 2nd is the inaugural SIUE Teddy Bear Toss to benefit Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
The Idea is simple enough, upon the first SIUE goal of the game on February 2nd, fans will throw teddy bears onto the ice. Players, coaches and staff will collect the teddy bears and donate them to children at Cardinal Glennon Children’s hospital. This is a tradition among several Canadian minor league teams, starting in 1993 in Kamloops, British Columbia.
If fans would like to help, they can donate new teddy bears to SIUE Club Sports prior to the game, and pick them up at the game. If fans have not donated a bear prior to the game, they can purchase a new one from SIUE Club Sports at the East Alton Ice Arena prior to the game for $15.
In addition, clubs associated with SIUE can win prizes for donating bears or stuffed animals, as well as a prize for being the club with the most people in attendance to cheer on the Cougars against the Cyclones.
Those with questions can contact Joe Carrillo (email@example.com) or Phil Leyerer (firstname.lastname@example.org). The inaugural Teddy Bear Toss will take place February 2nd against Iowa State at the East Alton Ice Arena. Game time is at 4:30 pm.
Come out and enjoy a beer at the East Alton Ice Arena and support a good cause!
